"The Pandemic and Other Problems Have Not Changed Our Income," How Male Webcam Models Work, Who Pays Male Models and How Much You Can Earn

We have discovered something surprising in the world of the adult webcam business: Men can also make money through adult webcam shows, not just women. In fact, there are so many men in the business who are secretly cashing in through adult webcam sites, OnlyFans, Fansly, and other similar platforms.

Today, we are diving deeper into this topic by taking an analysis from Alexander Kharchevnikov who made research and interviewed several male webcam models after posting a fake online advertisement pretending that he wants to hire male models for his agency. The models got to share a lot of interesting information that you’ll surely find interesting. You can read all about it in this article.

Retrospective

OnlyFans has been a great source of income for guys for a while now. However, many individuals are turning to webcams as a viable alternative to OnlyFans due to the restrictions OnlyFans comes with. Not only can you earn money through direct video broadcasts, but there are also other ways to make a profit. One such option is partnering up with your significant other and modeling together.

As noted by Alexander, models working in couples tend to earn more income compared to those working alone. Some couples are usually actual couples in real life and use this as a way to make more money for their households, while others are let's say “work partners”.

A few facts to consider here is that females who stream solo, tend to earn more money than men who stream solo in the adult webcam business. However, when they partner up, their earnings tend to increase. I don’t know why its that way but I guess there must be an attraction to it 🙂

Front or Back

A video camera is what we are discussing here, not what you might be thinking about. The responsibilities of the person holding the camera depend on the perspective they are working from. If they are in front of the camera, they are a model. But if they are behind the camera, they are a camera operator. The operator has more responsibilities than just filming. They also act as a director, and chat room moderators who communicate with viewers through private messages. They support the model and try to keep the chat lively to encourage viewers to make more donations. The earnings from the video are usually split equally between the model and the operator.

But of course, some models who don’t have a huge audience and are still on the rise tend to record themselves. They do that because at first the earnings are low and it's also hard to trust someone with your privacy especially when you are a beginner trying to make some bucks online while entertaining adults in that kind of way.

Working Independently or Working Under a Studio

Webcam performers have two choices: they can either work and market themselves independently or they can work in a studio. If they opt for the first option, their earnings must be split in half with the operator. And if they work in a studio, they will have to give half of their earnings to the studio. So, the model and the operator will only receive 25% each out of the total amount earned.

Of course, the studio helps with a lot of work including, promotions, model management, and generally providing all the requirements the model needs to see success. That’s why the studio takes the bigger cut.

To gain firsthand knowledge of the benefits and drawbacks of working independently or under a studio, Alexander Kharchevnikov posted advertisements looking to hire male adult webcam models on his Telegram channel. Two models responded, and each model had their own camera guy already. One said that he had the experience of working independently as a webcam performer and the other model said that he works through a studio.

Below are the questions Alexander asked them and the answers he received from the models:

Why Did You Join the Webcam Industry?

Both male models revealed that they were drawn to this line of work due to the potential of making lots of money. However, they also acknowledged that the work can be challenging, especially from a moral standpoint.

The majority of webcam viewers are male, which can be a difficult adjustment for some male models.

"It's rare to have female viewers in streams. Nearly 99% of the audience are gay men, so you have to be prepared to interact with them," said one of the models.

The model who works through a studio stated that newcomers in this space have just one week to make an impression. If you don't manage to build a substantial audience within that timeframe, it becomes more challenging to continue promoting your content.

Scope of Work and Schedule

According to the models, achieving financial success requires a commitment to work, with a schedule of at least 8 - 10 hours per night, for 5 days a week. Communication and performance skills are critical elements of the job. Also, many webcam models prefer working in professional studios so that they can access all the equipment and resources required to make their work easier and more cost-effective.

Although the studio takes a percentage of their earnings, new models are advised to start their careers through cooperation with them. The schedule is flexible, but the more you work, the more you earn. The studio will provide training, making it easier for beginners to adapt to their new roles and gain experience. Once they have built up enough capital, they can consider branching out on their own as an independent webcam model.

Operators

Getting into the webcam industry is not just limited to being a model. There's also the option of becoming an operator.

"I came across the job posting on HeadHunter and decided to give it a shot," said a camera operator of one of the models.

Similarly, the other operator said that he found the job through the same job search website. They were offered a promising salary, ranging from $650 to $1 300 a month, based on their performance.

However, before officially starting their job, they had to go through extensive training and an unpaid internship. This was necessary to ensure that they had a deep understanding of the work and were equipped to perform their duties as an operator, working alongside the model.

Shooting Schedule

The operator's journey starts at around 9 PM at night, where he prepares the s (area of performance) for a mesmerizing show. With careful preparation, he ensures the camera, lighting, and all other necessary tools are in place and ready for the live stream. He is the mastermind behind the scenes, monitoring the chat and communicating with the viewers while adding a personal touch to the show.

The model's role here remains to bring his A-game when it comes to the performance, ensuring that he delivers a unique and unforgettable experience to the audience.

Earnings

The webcam model that Alexander Kharchevnikov spoke with confirmed that the studio takes half of the earnings. However, sometimes even the remaining 50% is not always split evenly – with 25% going to the model and the remaining 25% being divided between the cameraman and producer.

Sometimes, the operator alone is unable to handle all the responsibilities, requiring the addition of another person to the broadcast. Working with a studio, an operator can expect to collaborate with multiple models, thereby increasing their income.

Alexander Kharchevnikov did not disclose specific revenue figures but stated that only the top models earn significant amounts, while the majority earn based on the limitations they have.

Gray Area

Webcam businesses are not considered adult-oriented, but they are also not considered completely legitimate. Models have reported that the studios they worked in were frequently raided by police.

However, due to their high-quality security systems, any incriminating data was kept hidden and the raids didn't result in any consequences. Those who work independently from home, however, face a higher risk of encountering issues. Like, imagine your family members open the door and bump into you while you’re in action.

Impacts of the Pandemic

Alexander inquired about the impact of the pandemic and global crisis on the income of webcam models and operators. All parties reported that demand for their content remained unchanged, with foreign clients still willing to make donations.

Despite the potential for growth in their profession, the models and operators advised caution for beginners. They emphasized that success in this field requires hard work and effort, and warned against approaching it as a casual endeavor, as a failed attempt could result in not only a lack of financial gain but also damage to one's reputation.

Conclusion

There is an old Soviet proverb that says, “All occupations are important”. The person who introduced this saying probably envisioned a blue-collar factory worker, not a man performing sexually suggestive acts in a club for an audience of men. However, adult work has always been there for ages and it won’t go away anytime soon. As the world is evolving, this kind of work evolves too.
