So you have an ad running on Facebook that runs well, or maybe you have an ad that didn’t get delivered, or you didn’t get the results you expected from an ad. In any way, you might be thinking of re-creating the same ad. But wait, you don’t have to, because Facebook allows you to simply copy the same ad and publish it again.
In this article, we have decided to take you through all the possible ways of copying an ad, an ad set, or an ad campaign on Facebook, and why copying an ad might be what you need.
Sometimes, your ads are doing really great, and as you know, engagement is what really matters on Facebook ads (or any type of ads). That is why, when your ad is ending, you can simply copy it and carry along the engagements on the ad to the new ad, so some fresh users will get impressed by your ad.
Some other time, you might want to copy your ad because your current ad isn’t doing well or isn’t delivering, so you try to push it again. Even though it might be an option to just increase the budget, we know that Facebook’s algorithm considers an ad as not something that’s going to win, and you will get less and less impressions. That is when you can easily copy your ad and push it again.
So you might be wondering, what happens if you copy an ad. Simply put, beside the ad being duplicated along with all the description, media, settings, etc., it will be forced into running again, keeping your ad priority on top. Plus, you can save lots of time and effort.
Take a look at the screenshot below. Simply by duplicating and copying different ads, ad sets, and ad campaigns, we have managed to create as many copies as needed.
Just to clarify, here what we mean by copying is copying your own campaigns and not somebody else’s.
As mentioned before, there are several ways to copy an ad on Facebook Ads Manager. Not only can you copy an ad, you can also copy an ad set and an ad campaign. Let’s go through each of these one by one.
To copy an ad campaign, you can simply use the famous copy and paste method by clicking Ctrl + C when you have the campaign open, and clicking Ctrl + V to duplicate it. Below is the notification you will get when you copy your campaign.
You can also click on the icon with 3 dots on the top right to open an action menu that allows you to either Quick Duplicate the campaign using Ctrl + D or Duplicate it normally along with the duplication settings. When you use the Quick Duplicate, you won’t be seeing any modifications. You will just see your ad campaign duplicated. However, when clicking on Duplicate (or using the key bind Ctrl + Shift + D), you will see the following pop-up.
On this pop-up, you can choose how many campaign copies you want to create and if you want to carry on the engagements to the new campaign. Keep in mind that this new Campaign now includes all the ad sets and ads as well.
There is one last easy and simple way without opening the campaign, which is simply hovering over the campaign name and selecting the choice “Duplicate”.
You can copy an ad set in the exact same ways as you would do with an ad campaign, except when you use the Duplicate (Shift + Ctrl + D) option, you will see the following pop-up.
This pop-up allows you to assign this copy of the ad set to an existing campaign (meaning you could choose another campaign), the same campaign, or a new campaign (which allows you to create a new one). You can also assign it to a new A/B test and choose the number of copies you need.
Lastly, in order to copy an ad, you can do all that was explained in the campaign and ad set copying instructions, plus this time you can assign your ad to an ad set as well, as it has those settings in this pop-up too.
One bonus ability you have is to be able to view your clipboard and what items you copied previously, just in case you forget.
Suppose you want to copy one of your ad campaigns or ads from one Facebook account to another one of your accounts. Facebook gives you the ability to do as well. You can simply go to the main page of the campaigns, and select the ads you want to copy from this account to another. The way to go is to export this ad as a file and import it on another account as a file.
You can export and import these files in any format you would like: .xlsx, .csv, or text.
When importing these ads, you can upload or copy from the Excel file or the text file.
Conclusion
When dealing with Facebook Ads, it is important to know that your tactics are the most important part of the advertising success. Knowing when to push your campaigns again, when to boost them, and when to save them by duplicating them is one of these tactics. Keep in mind that you can always improve your tactics and brainstorm for ideas to make your campaigns better next time.
