Result Review

As seen from the screenshot above, she has generated $3 043.53 promoting a product called Thinkific and has earned a total commission of $913, both approved and pending. She has also made a commission of $717.6 from a different online course platform, which she also reviewed in the same video. These programs are based on recurring commissions, which means she continues earning as long as the people remain signed up.

Overview of the Strategy

According to Anastasia, in describing this strategy,

"You won't need to use your credit card even once, plus you can do it from anywhere in the world."

This strategy works because Anastasia creates video tutorials with tips and tricks for her favorite apps and websites. For example, she compared various online platforms that offer different courses in one of her videos on her channel.

Using Tubebuddy, a YouTube SEO analysis browser extension shows that this video ranks on YouTube for many keywords like "the best online course platforms comparison," "online course platforms comparison," "online course creation tools," etc.

Also, checking the detailed analytics of the video, you can see that it's been getting more views over time, mainly from YouTube searches, which means people are searching for this kind of video. This video has generated an Adsense income of $185, and there are other significant ways the video made money. The video description outlined platforms that were reviewed and compared, and they were embedded with web links that took viewers to the affiliate pages.

Anastasia received affiliate commissions when visitors purchased items from her affiliate pages. When people search for the video's keyword, her video comes up, and since the  links to the app or product reviewed in the video description are embedded therein; they will be directed to the affiliate landing page when they click it.

While stating her view on the whole strategy, Anastasia said,

"One thing to keep in mind is that this is not a strategy that will make you a millionaire overnight. You've seen that my video didn't get all that many views in one day; it's been on the platform for over 270 days, and the number of views keeps growing. And yes, it may not make you thousands of dollars overnight, but it creates a source of passive income, and affiliate commissions will keep coming from it every month. All I did was to create the video and upload it."

Finding A Niche

To replicate this whole strategy, three steps need to be followed:

  1. Find a niche
  2. Choose an affiliate program for your product
  3. Record your video tutorial.

Usually, it may be a little bit difficult to find one's profitable niche, and many people get stuck at this step because there are so many niches one could make videos about, like weight loss, food, pets, video games, social media marketing, website development, and so much more. One criterion for choosing a niche is choosing something you can continue talking about because it is very easy to "get "creator burnout" — inability to get content ideas," — inability to generate consistent content ideas if you are not interested in the topics in the niche.

However, if the goal is to make quick cash, which is not advisable, one could go for just any niche, but to build a business that makes money in the long run, you have to be interested in your niche. In Anastasia's case, it was through Pinterest marketing that she saw explosive growth on her blog, and she is always keen on knowing about more ways to harness the platform's potential.

Since Pinterest is her specialty, she has many tutorials that show people how to use Tailwind, a content scheduler for Pinterest. Additionally, she often shares her screen in videos, teaching her audience how she creates her Pinterest pins using Canva and other tools to create short videos and upload them to Pinterest.

Finding an Affiliate Program For a Niche

After you have picked a niche, you should know the kind of product to promote in that niche. Next, use Google to determine if the product has an affiliate program. To use Google for this, enter the product name in the search bar, followed by "affiliate program." For example, you can use "Canva affiliate program" as the search query.

Some companies keep their affiliate programs private, so one must request to join the program. However, most of the companies host their affiliate programs on either of the largest affiliate networks:

These are the two largest affiliate networks, and they both have on their platforms a large number of software companies with digital products and affiliate programs with higher commission rates than most physical products. In many cases, these software products' affiliate programs have recurring commissions.

Unfortunately, you can only apply to be a partner on both platforms if you have a website or social media platform with some content. Even worse, you cannot simply set up a website in a day and upload content to achieve the required level of engagement to be accepted as an affiliate marketer on the platforms.

But let's see how you can get your affiliate marketing accepted on the platforms without a website: by doing reviews. The significant part about making reviews about apps and tools as an affiliate marketer is that these apps and tools are free; therefore, informing your audience that there is no need to pay for the product is an effective strategy. Even those that require payment will almost certainly provide free trials.

Recording Your Video

To record video tutorials, you will need a screen recorder app that allows you to record yourself creating tutorial videos. The best option for a laptop or desktop is OBS Studio, which is free and has many tutorials on how to use it.

On a mobile phone, one can utilize the default functionality of the phone to record the screen or use a free third-party app called X Recorder

Following this, you must decide which video platform to upload the video to. For longer horizontal videos created on desktops, they should be uploaded to YouTube. For beginners, starting with mobile videos — mobile view compatible — is recommended as they are very easy to make and are short. These short videos can be further uploaded as YouTube shorts, as videos on Tiktok, or as Instagram reels.

Compared to an average horizontal YouTube video, which is usually around 10 minutes long, you can create ten short videos instead of just one tutorial on YouTube. Also, starting with short-form content will help find the best topics that will take off on the account faster, so there is a high chance of going viral with ten short videos rather than a long one. Once the best videos have been identified as viral, you can make YouTube tutorials.

Another benefit of making short videos is that you can reupload them to various social media platforms, including Youtube shorts, TikTok, Instagram reels, and even Pinterest as video pins and idea pins. With that, it is possible to reach an audience on different platforms by reusing the same video four times, while working on the longer tutorials will only be for Youtube. In addition to that, there is much demand for tutorials, even on Tiktok. For example, if you search for "Notion tutorials," you'll see lots of videos that have gone viral and are showcased by small content creators.

Let's say you have chosen to create a video tutorial on Notion that you want to upload to TikTok. We could go to Google and search for different Notion tips and tricks, then find a blog post that lists them, cross-check them to see which ones still need a tutorial on TikTok, and then go ahead and make that tutorial video. Many people prefer watching a video tutorial to reading a blog post with screenshots.

Another advantage is that it is easy to make videos about tips and tricks that many people do not know about. It is easier to make videos on apps one has used very well. For example, from Anastasia's experience using Pinterest, she knows Canva is not only a graphic design tool, but it has a built-in scheduler for social media, including Pinterest. This means if you have a Canva Pro account, you can save money using other scheduling tools by using Canva.

Further, one can record a video to show the process of creating a pin. After creating the pin, one can click the "share" button instead of the "download the file" option. Then choose "share on social" and click "Schedule." After that, he selects the platform to which he will connect his Pinterest account.

Afterward, one needs to upload some of these tutorial videos to the preferred video platform to be qualified to join affiliate programs for the products one wants to promote. The limitation of not having a website is settled because you can give a link to your social media profile instead.

Once you get accepted, you'll get access to your affiliate links, which you can paste into your video description. If you upload the tutorial videos to TikTok, you can add affiliate links to your account profile.

Income Analysis

  • Revenue from AdSense: $185
  • Commission from Thinkific: $900
  • Commission from other online course platform-$700
  • Total earnings: $1 785

Conclusion

In this post, Anastasia shows how she earns $1 785 daily in affiliate commissions promoting tools she loves and knows how to use well. Using either of the most extensive affiliate networks, Partnerstack or Impact, one could easily choose a product to promote, but only after choosing a niche to avoid content burnout and creating enough video content to get approved on the affiliate networks.

In making the tutorial videos, we've seen that starting with short video content for a mobile view is good, then moving to YouTube video tutorials. In all of these steps, it is essential to take this strategy of making money as a side hustle rather than a regular source of income.
