Normally, reaching this stage would have involved multiple steps such as:

  • Hire a designer
  • Create a concept
  • Analyze competitors.

But incredibly, within just a few minutes, AI had managed to accomplish all these tasks and more. I liked option 1, so I had to go forward with it.

Finding a Manufacturer

The next step involved reaching out to a manufacturer. However, a significant hurdle emerged – I lacked knowledge about the various components that constitute a running shoe.

To overcome this, I turned to ChatGPT and inquired,

"What are the components of a running shoe?"

The response provided a solid foundation for communication with the manufacturer.

I then went one step further and asked ChatGPT to craft an entire email to send to the manufacturer. And it worked!

The result was successful, as the manufacturer expressed eagerness to collaborate, sending over the designs we needed. From these designs, I selected two for sampling, propelling us swiftly to the next phase.


Building the Landing Page

Creating an engaging landing page was the next challenge. I tried using MidJourney but at first I wasn't getting good results.

Luckily, I came across this Midjourney prompt:

And the results were incredible:

This led to an impressive landing page design that seamlessly merged aesthetics and functionality.

Creating Website Copy

Crafting compelling website copy came next. Asking ChatGPT to create a headline for a running shoe brand emphasizing speed and energy transfer initially fell short. However, a simple adjustment requesting a more scientific tone resulted in a headline that exceeded expectations.

Initial prompt:

"Write a headline for a running shoe brand focused on increasing speed and energy transfer"

The first result wasn't great

Then I added:

"Write it in a more scientific tone"

And boom!


Website Content:

Continuing with website content, I tasked ChatGPT to create succinct unique selling propositions (USPs) in ten words or less. It delivered a range of enticing subheadings that seamlessly fit into the website's narrative.


Experiment Review

Incredibly, at this point, only about 40 minutes of work had gone into the project. Yet, we had accomplished a remarkable amount:

  • Designed the running shoe
  • Found a manufacturer
  • Developed a captivating landing page
  • Crafted persuasive website copy

AI had shouldered the bulk of the work, making the process incredibly efficient. However, a final hurdle remained — weaving all the AI-generated components together cohesively. To accomplish this, we enlisted a skilled and budget-friendly designer from Upwork, who expertly brought together the various elements.

A few days later, the eagerly awaited shoe samples arrived from the manufacturer, and the big reveal was upon us. While not identical to the original AI designs, the samples were remarkably close.

It was at this moment that I realized how crazy AI is becoming. It generated creative designs, composed persuasive copy (including emails), and conducted thorough research, all within a remarkably short span of time.

Still, AI faced limitations in seamlessly integrating everything. Human expertise was crucial in this aspect. The combination of human and AI efforts resulted in an impressive final product.

Reflecting on this experiment, it's inspiring to consider AI's rapid evolution. While not flawless, AI demonstrated remarkable capabilities, and I can only imagine the strides it will make in the next 1-3 years.
