GBG Review
7.2/10The only LSE-listed, audited pure-play in the IDV tier: a 1989 Chester company (GB Group PLC, LSE:GBG, FTSE 250 from December 2025) whose GBG GO platform runs identity, document, biometric, age, and affordability checks for gaming, PA-Certified in the US through IDology, on the UK DIATF register, and dragged by a twice-impaired Americas business (£122.2M in FY23 plus £73.1M in FY26).
Our read
Full-stack single-vendor gaming KYC on GBG GO (launched Apr 2025): document authentication (8,500+ types and 195 countries, vendor-stated) plus biometric, liveness, age, affordability, Multi Bureau identity, AML, and the GBG Trust fraud network in a no-code journey builder, with the affordability depth a real UK differentiator and no accuracy-percentage inflation.
Register-anchored on both sides of the Atlantic: PA PGCB Certified (IDology, Inc., the higher class) plus the UK OfDIA DIATF statutory register (GB Group PLC, updated 2025-12-03), backed by the tier's only LSE-audited disclosure, docked because ISO and SOC issuer certificates are not published on-page.
API plus SDK plus the GBG GO no-code journey builder with a real open docs portal (docs.go.gbgplc.com), Equifax and IBM partnerships, and orchestration of reusable attributes, held back because sandbox availability is unconfirmed and no SLA is published.
The deepest documented US-lens trail after the specialists: RNS-named operators (Bally's, Pollard, NTD, OX, Jumpman) plus a named GGPoker case study with an operator quote (pass rate 50% to 80%) and The Phone Casino and Racing Stars, with the Flutter/Entain/Lottoland/Betway wall logo-only and not over-credited.
Radical transparency (only LSE-listed audited pure-play, FTSE 250 from Dec 2025, £285.0M FY26 revenue, 23.7% adjusted margin, 100% net revenue retention, Americas back to growth Q4 FY26) priced against a twice-impaired Americas unit (£122.2M FY23 plus £73.1M FY26) and Acuant-to-IDology-to-GBG brand churn, with no security incident on record.
Fully opaque: no public price list, no per-check schedule, enterprise sales only (Jul 2026).
Methodology. Our own score, a weighted average of six dimensions, tilted toward verification coverage and compliance. Weighted on the identity-verification scale, where verification coverage leads at 0.22 and compliance and certifications follows at 0.20, which suits a vendor whose full-stack platform and dual-Atlantic register trail are the substance while the Americas history and opaque pricing pull it down. Read the full methodology
- The only LSE-listed, audited pure-play in the tier: GB Group PLC (LSE:GBG) reported £285.0M FY26 revenue at a 23.7% adjusted operating margin, joined the FTSE 250 in December 2025, and discloses everything through full RNS filings, radical transparency in a category that hides almost everything.
- The deepest documented gaming trail of the US-lens IDV set: RNS-named operators (Bally's, Pollard, NTD, OX, Jumpman) plus a named GGPoker case study where the age-check pass rate rose from 50% to 80% with an operator quote, stronger evidence than the Flutter/Entain/Lottoland/Betway logo wall the vendor also shows.
- Full-stack single-vendor gaming KYC on GBG GO: document authentication, biometric, liveness, age, AML, and UK affordability screening (CCJ, IVA, geo-affordability) in one orchestration platform, with the affordability and responsible-gaming depth a real differentiator among IDV specialists.
- Register-anchored on both sides of the Atlantic: PA-Certified through IDology, Inc. (the higher PA class) and a UK DIATF statutory register entry for GB Group PLC (updated December 2025), with no accuracy-percentage inflation and no security incident on record.
- A twice-impaired US business: GBG wrote down the same Identity-Americas unit twice, £122.2M in FY23 (including the Acuant brand write-off) and another £73.1M in FY26, after the roughly £780M IDology-plus-Acuant acquisition case underperformed hard enough to force two goodwill impairments, with Americas only returning to growth in Q4 FY26.
- Heavy integration and brand churn: the Acuant to IDology to GBG rebrand chain wrote off the Acuant brand entirely (£2.8M, FY23), and the fraud segment was re-cut from Fraud to Global Fraud Solutions in FY26 after a strategic review of whether GBG should keep the fraud business at all.
- Pricing is fully opaque: no public price list, no per-check schedule, enterprise sales only (Jul 2026), the same hidden-pricing camp as most of the tier and the opposite of the iDenfy and Shufti publish-the-price approach.
- Statutory losses on the filings: a £74.5M pre-tax loss in FY26 (driven by the impairment plus a £16.5M legacy Compliance platform write-off) and a £112.4M operating loss in FY23, non-cash-driven but a headline-risk optic for a buyer scanning the accounts.
- The gaming logo wall (Flutter, Entain, Lottoland, Betway) is logo-only, weaker than the RNS and case-study evidence, and the Global Fraud Solutions line that carries GBG Trust is roughly 7% of revenue and was itself a divestiture candidate, so it is non-core to the company.
UK, Irish, and Americas operators that want one auditable, publicly listed vendor for identity, document, age, and affordability checks in a single flow, especially multi-brand groups that can use the GBG GO journey builder to orchestrate onboarding.
Buyers who need published pricing before the first sales call, want a fraud-monitoring-led stack instead of an identity-led one, or are wary of a vendor with a heavy acquisition, rebrand, and goodwill-impairment history.
Markets & licensing
GBG carries a register trail on both sides of the Atlantic, which is rare for this category. In the US, the certification is held by IDology, Inc., the absorbed US brand and legal entity, as an Authorized Certified gaming service provider on Pennsylvania's PGCB list (as of 3/24/2026), with the description reading KYC services (age and identity verification). PA distinguishes Certified from the lower Registered class, and IDology holds the higher one. In the UK, the entry sits at group level: GB Group PLC on the OfDIA statutory DIATF register, last updated 3 December 2025, listing Identify, IDscan Enterprise, oZone, and ID3global. Underneath both sits the tier's only LSE-audited disclosure, ISO 27001 and SOC are asserted on company materials but the issuer certificates are not published on the gaming page.
The US gaming certification is real and at the higher class: IDology, Inc. is an Authorized Certified gaming service provider on the PGCB list (as of 3/24/2026) for KYC services covering age and identity verification. That certification predates the brand absorption and still sits under the IDology legal entity even though the go-to-market product is now GBG GO. US operators get a state-register anchor, though per-state coverage beyond Pennsylvania should be confirmed at contract, and the Americas business itself is the twice-impaired unit the trust section covers.
GB Group PLC holds a plc-level entry on the OfDIA Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework register, last updated 3 December 2025, covering Identify, IDscan Enterprise, oZone, and ID3global. Combined with the affordability and age depth built for UK responsible-gaming rules, this is the strongest side of GBG's footprint for a UK-regulated operator.

Licensing tier: Two registers, both the higher-value kind for their scheme: PA Certified rather than Registered, and a UK DIATF statutory presence. Backed by the only LSE-audited financials in the tier, though ISO 27001 and SOC are vendor-stated on the gaming page rather than shown as issuer certificates.
The two register anchors are the checkable footprint. GBG operates across six continents commercially, but the gaming-relevant registers are the UK DIATF entry and the Pennsylvania certification (Jul 2026).
No restricted-market list applies: GBG is an LSE-listed software vendor out of Chester whose gaming exposure sits on its clients' licenses, never its own (Jul 2026).

Integrations & engineering
One contract and one API instead of a separate deal per studio, feed, or PSP. Here's what connects, how fast, and on what stack.
Everything runs through GBG GO: one API plus SDKs, or the no-code journey builder that lets an operator wire document, biometric, age, AML, and affordability checks into a single onboarding flow and reuse verified attributes across journeys. The US business still exposes the legacy IDology ExpectID API alongside GBG GO, so a US operator should confirm which surface it lands on. Multi Bureau pulls Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion in one call, and the affordability layer draws on property, CCJ, and IVA data behind the same platform.
No public integration-time claim for gaming (Jul 2026). The open GO docs cover the API surface end to end, and sandbox availability is implied by the portal but not confirmed, so the real calendar comes out of the sales process.
Products & tools
One platform since April 2025: GBG GO routes document authentication, biometric and liveness checks, age verification, affordability screening, Multi Bureau identity data, and AML through a single API and a no-code journey builder, with the US business carrying the former IDology and Acuant engines underneath.
GBG GO Identity Platform
Launched April 2025 as the group's go-to-market identity platform: one API and a no-code journey builder over what the vendor states as 80 identity, fraud, and risk modules, replacing the separate IDology and Acuant product lines in the Americas.
- Document authentication across 8,500+ global ID types and 195 countries (vendor-stated, Jul 2026)
- Biometric facial match, liveness detection, and AI tampering detection on documents
- Age verification plus red/amber/green affordability screening from property values, CCJs, and IVAs
- Multi Bureau identity data pulling Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion in one call
- No-code journey builder to route and combine modules per onboarding flow, with public docs at docs.go.gbgplc.com
Affordability & Financial Risk Screening
A red/amber/green financial-risk status built from postcode-level property values, CCJ and IVA records, debt-collector searches, and vulnerability signals, sold to gaming as part of the responsible-gaming stack.
- Geo-affordability from property values at postcode level
- CCJ and IVA screening plus debt-collector and bankruptcy searches
- Vulnerability screening for bad debt and financial hardship
- Runs in the same GBG GO flow as identity, age, and AML checks
- Framed on the gaming page as meeting global gaming market regulations, UK affordability lens first
GBG Trust Fraud Network
A cross-industry fraud-signal network named on the gaming page, aimed at bonus-abuse and multi-accounting detection by pooling risk signals across GBG's client base.
- Cross-industry bonus-abuse and multi-accounting network
- Sits inside the Global Fraud Solutions segment, re-cut as GFS in FY26
- Complements identity and affordability with a fraud-signal layer
- Named on the gaming vertical page as part of the player-protection story
On the record
The history that matters: the milestones, the scale, the awards, and who runs it.
GBG traces to GB Group, founded in 1989 and based at Chester Business Park in the UK, and it built its identity business through acquisition: IDology in 2019 for about $300M and Acuant in November 2021 for £547M, funded by 52.1M new shares plus a loan. Those deals put roughly £780M into a US Identity-Americas unit that then underperformed, forcing a £122.2M goodwill impairment in FY23 and another £73.1M in FY26 against the same unit. The company moved off AIM to the LSE Main Market on 30 October 2025 and joined the FTSE 250 effective 22 December 2025, the only listed, audited pure-play in the IDV tier. It reports three segments, Identity, Location, and Global Fraud Solutions (GFS, re-cut from Fraud in FY26 after a strategic review), employs roughly 1,300 people across six continents, and posted £285.0M revenue in FY26 at a 23.7% adjusted operating margin, with the go-to-market identity product now GBG GO and the former IDology brand folded into the master brand.

GBG vs alternatives
The same attributes, side by side, from our normalized provider set, useful for seeing where this vendor fits against its peers.
| Attribute | GBG | Sumsub | Socure | Jumio |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Founded | 1989 | 2015 | 2012 | 2010 |
| Team | 1,300+ | 500+ | — | — |

| Country coverage | 195 countries | Document-free verification in… | 190+ countries | 200+ countries and territories |
| UK DIATF | UK OfDIA DIATF statutory regi… | Certified IDSP | None | Yes |
The take: Sumsub is the orchestration-plus-public-pricing contrast, matching GBG's platform breadth but publishing per-check rates GBG hides. Socure is the other PA-Certified US-lens vendor, with a cleaner conduct record but no UK DIATF anchor and no affordability depth. Jumio brings the deepest named gaming roster but a heavier legacy file. Pick GBG when a UK or Americas book wants a single audited, listed vendor with age and affordability in one flow, and can accept the twice-impaired Americas history and opaque pricing.

Frequently asked
The things operators actually ask before signing.
Is IDology still a separate thing, or is it just GBG now?+
It is GBG now for the product. GBG acquired IDology in 2019 and by FY25-26 folded it into the GBG master brand, with the go-to-market identity product now GBG GO. idology.com 301-redirects to gbg.com (verified 2026-07-11). IDology, Inc. still exists as the US legal entity that holds the Pennsylvania gaming certification, and the underlying US engine (ExpectID) is still exposed, so the name lives on in the register and in the API even though it is no longer a standalone brand you buy.
What does the Americas double impairment mean for a US operator relying on GBG?+
It means the US identity business that IDology and Acuant became underperformed its roughly £780M acquisition case badly enough that GBG had to write down the same Identity-Americas unit twice, £122.2M in FY23 and another £73.1M in FY26. Both are non-cash goodwill impairments, both are self-disclosed in audited LSE filings, and the same FY26 results show the Americas returning to growth in Q4 after three years of decline. GBG as a group posted £285.0M revenue at a 23.7% adjusted margin and 100% net revenue retention, so the company is stable, but a US buyer should go in knowing the Americas unit is the weak spot on the filings.
Does GBG handle US state gaming compliance?+
Partly, and the anchor is Pennsylvania. IDology, Inc. is an Authorized Certified gaming service provider on the PGCB list (as of 3/24/2026) for KYC services covering age and identity verification, which is the higher of PA's two classes. GBG also publishes US-state compliance glossary content. Coverage beyond Pennsylvania should be confirmed per state at contract, since a single PA certification is the checkable register anchor rather than a 50-state footprint.
Can GBG do age and affordability in one onboarding flow?+
Yes, and that is one of its differentiators. GBG GO combines age verification with affordability and financial-risk screening (a red/amber/green status from property values, CCJs, IVAs, and debt-collector searches) alongside identity and AML checks in the same flow. The affordability data is UK-centric, so it is strongest for a UK or Irish book and thinner outside those markets, but combining age, identity, AML, and affordability in one vendor is something most IDV specialists cannot match.
Does GBG publish pricing?+
No. There is no public price list and no per-check schedule anywhere as of July 2026, GBG sells identity software on enterprise contracts only. FY26 commentary mentions GBG GO reaching 100-plus customer contracts since launch with a multi-solution attach rate above 25%, but no per-check or per-seat figure is on record. Budget for a fully negotiated enterprise deal.
