Long story short: MAC. What to see in Yerevan

On May 20-21, Yerevan will host the largest affiliate marketing conference in Eastern Europe — MAC. The event will bring together over 4,000 attendees, feature more than 150 expo booths, and present insights from 20+ international speakers.

Find out more about the conference on the official website.

During the conference itself, you'll make a ton of new business connections and catch up with old friends — because all the industry veterans are coming to MAC. And there’s nothing better for strengthening a partnership than a joint stroll through Yerevan and its surroundings after the event; after all, the networking continues long after MAC officially ends. That’s why we’ve put together this guide to the absolute must-visit spots in Yerevan.

Stick around until the end! If you're still looking for a place to stay, we’ve listed four official partner hotels at the bottom of this post with exclusive discounts of up to 30%.

The Culture and History of the City

The Cascade

This magnificent architectural complex resembles a ziggurat, but instead of ancient gods at the top, you're treated to a panoramic observation deck with breathtaking views of Yerevan and the majestic Mount Ararat. Climbing the 572 steps is a challenge not meant for everyone, but thankfully, there is a convenient escalator hidden inside the complex. As you go up, don't forget to check out the sculptures at the base.

Saint Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral

Built in 2001 to commemorate the 1700th anniversary of Armenia adopting Christianity as its state religion, this cathedral is located quite close to the conference venue. It offers picturesque views of the city, and its massive domes are visible from almost anywhere in Yerevan.

Alexander Spendiaryan National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre

Located right in the heart of Yerevan, this theater is the absolute center of the city's cultural life. Designed by the architect Alexander Tamanyan, the building is surrounded by cozy parks and cafes. Just a short walk away, you'll find the beautiful artificial pond known as "Swan Lake."

Yervand Kochar Museum

This museum is dedicated to the life and work of the outstanding Armenian artist and sculptor Yervand Kochar. It showcases his creations from various periods, including his unique "spatial painting." The museum also regularly hosts lectures, presentations, and exhibitions in multiple languages.

Matenadaran (The Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts)

If you love books and history, this is the best place you could possibly visit. It houses manuscripts dating from the 5th to the 18th centuries, a unique collection of early printed and antiquarian Armenian books from the 16th to the 18th centuries, and much more. Sadly, you can't touch the books with your own hands, but you can certainly view and read about these priceless documents in several languages.

Drink and Relax

Wine Street

No trip to Yerevan is complete without some good wine, and you can find delicious local varieties all over the city. Saryan Street, however, is the epicenter. Not only will you find a multitude of fantastic bars and restaurants here, but it's also home to the house-museums of writer Hovhannes Tumanyan and painter Martiros Saryan.

Noy Cognac Factory

If you’re looking for something with a bit more of a kick than wine, we highly recommend a port and cognac tasting at the famous Noy factory. However, you might want to hold off on the heavy tasting during the conference days themselves — remember, the MAC Afterparty features a party until dawn with an unlimited open bar!

Burlesque Karaoke

Tucked away right in the heart of Yerevan’s nightlife scene, you’ll find Burlesque Karaoke — a spot that’s truly in a league of its own. It’s not just a place to hop on the mic; it’s a full-blown experience. Here, every guest can feel like a show business star: the stage design, lighting, sound, and overall atmosphere create the feeling of a genuine performance.

Burlesque is, above all, about style. Everything in the interior, from the neon accents to the velvet sofas, hints that this is a place where you can be yourself, experiment with your image, and not be afraid to get loud. The song selection ranges from timeless classics to edgy pop culture hits. And if you aren't there to sing, just stay to listen, dance, enjoy the cocktails, and soak in the great company.

Heading Out of Town!

Lake Sevan

Sevan is the largest lake in the entire Caucasus region. It is one of Armenia's most famous natural treasures and one of the largest high-altitude freshwater lakes in the world. Situated at about 1,900 meters above sea level, it’s only about 60 km from Yerevan — you can get there in just 1 to 1.5 hours by car.

Echmiadzin

Just 20 km from Yerevan, on the way to Zvartnots Airport, lies a city home to one of the oldest Christian churches in the world. The ruins of this majestic 7th-century temple are a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. In addition to the main cathedral, Echmiadzin also features the beautiful churches of St. Hripsime, St. Gayane, and Shoghakat.

Khor Virap

A quick 40 km drive from the city will take you to Khor Virap. This monastery is famous for its history: according to legend, it’s where Saint Gregory the Illuminator was held captive in a pit for 14 years before King Trdat III finally embraced Christianity. But Khor Virap isn't just famous for its history — it is the closest point in Armenia to Mount Ararat. The view of the monastery set against the backdrop of Ararat is truly a mesmerizing sight.

Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory

Situated in a picturesque location on the slopes of Mount Aragats, just 35 km from Yerevan. Here, you can look through real, massive telescopes, marvel at the incredibly clear starry sky, and attend fascinating astronomy lectures.
