OpenBet Review
7.1/10Enterprise sportsbook supplier out of London, live since 1996 and clean on UKGC account 3213 since 2009, running the engine behind FanDuel-class books and state lottery estates, with more than 200 million bets processed through World Cup 2022, a named MTS managed-trading desk in Las Vegas and Tampa, and no public pricing, docs, or financials since the March 2025 management buyout.
Our read
Tournament-scale throughput (200M+ World Cup 2022 bets, 100,000+ a minute at the 2024 Grand National) and a full Bet, Trade, Protect stack with own BetBuilder, against zero published sports, event, or market counts.
A UKGC file (account 3213) clean since 2009 with no adverse entries, while the 85-license claim carries no public per-jurisdiction list, the US state trail is traced through client launches, and none of the Brazilian signings has gone live.
The segment's only published dual model, self-trade or MTS with a named scope list from 24/7 Vegas and Tampa desks on in-house Don Best pricing, now buying data it once owned after the IMG Arena sale and minus its flagship MTS case study since FireKeepers left in Oct 2025.
Thirty clean years and the 2025 American Gambling Awards platform prize, priced against a 62% valuation slide, post-buyout financial opacity, and FireKeepers, BCLC, and William Hill eroding off the top of the wall while Tabcorp, Veikkaus, OPAP, and Loterie Romande offset.
The 120-day launch claim has no case-study math behind it, and the real delivery record (Tabcorp's TAB live Aug 2025, Veikkaus expansions, OPAP retail) is heavy machinery behind a fully sales-gated door with no docs or sandbox.
No pricing or revenue-share terms have ever been published, even from the SEC-documented era, leaving contract lengths (Flutter five years, Danske Spil's 11-year alliance) as the only visible commercial shape.
Methodology. Our own score, a weighted average of six dimensions, tilted toward product and licensing. Weighted on the sportsbook-platform scale, where product and coverage lead at 0.22 ahead of licensing at 0.20 and trading at 0.18, a fit for a vendor whose scale proof is the substance while the commercials have never left the negotiating room. Read the full methodology
- Enterprise throughput at the extreme end of scale: more than 200 million bets processed through World Cup 2022, 140 million-plus at Euro 2024, and 100,000-plus peak bets a minute at the 2024 Grand National, the only tournament-scale throughput numbers published anywhere in this segment.
- The industry's marquee client wall (FanDuel, Sky Bet, William Hill, Ladbrokes, Danske Spil testimonials on the 2025 site) next to dated lottery and state wins from 2023 to 2026: Tabcorp, Veikkaus, Loterie Romande, OPAP, Four Winds.
- Managed Trading Services is a named product with a published scope list covering trading strategy, tailored margin, risk strategy, liability monitoring, limit setting, and customer profiling, a clearer managed-trading contract shape than any rival prints.
- The compliance and RG stack is in-house: Neccton's Mentor since June 2023, OpenBet Locator geolocation, and AML tooling, with Veikkaus expanding its Neccton deployment in 2026 for Finland's new Gambling Act.
- Thirty years of continuous operation since the 1996 Orbis founding, with zero regulatory actions on UKGC account 3213 across the 17 years it has been open, independent again since the March 24, 2025 buyout and named Platform Provider of the Year at the 2025 American Gambling Awards.
- The top of the wall is eroding: FireKeepers moved to Aristocrat Interactive (October 2025), BCLC's sportsbook went to Kambi (April 2026), and William Hill's owner evoke agreed a takeover by Bally's and Intralot at 52p a share (June 2026), while the biggest remaining logos date from the Scientific Games era with no current scope published.
- Post-buyout opacity is total: a private LLC with no reporting obligations, nothing filed since the deal closed in March 2025, and a valuation that slid 62% from $1.2 billion (2021) to $450 million for OpenBet plus IMG Arena (November 2024). The last known revenue is Endeavor's FY2023 segment figure of $469.8 million, and it included IMG Arena.
- No official-data arm since IMG Arena closed into Sportradar (November 3, 2025): OpenBet now buys the data and odds inputs it once owned, through ALT Sports Data and nVenue, a year after the February 2024 one-brand merger of OpenBet and IMG Arena.
- Everything is sales-gated: no public pricing, docs, sandbox, or SLA anywhere, no published sports or market counts, and the 120-days-from-scope-to-launch line comes with no case-study math behind it.
Tier-1 operators, state lotteries, and monopoly estates that need throughput proven at World Cup scale, procurement-grade compliance, and the option to hand trading operations to a managed desk with published duties.
Startups and mid-market books without enterprise budgets, brands without their own licenses (there is no umbrella), and buyers who want public pricing, docs, or a sandbox before the first sales call.
Markets & licensing
OpenBet's licensing surface is thin for a 30-year enterprise vendor. The UKGC account (3213, OpenBet Limited) is the one register-indexed entry, clean since it opened on Jan 1, 2009. Everything else rests on a bare 85-licenses-across-every-major-region line (Jul 2025) and on the client wall: FanDuel state launches from 2019, Four Winds Michigan (Oct 2024), MTS trading hubs in Las Vegas and Tampa, Tabcorp and Sportsbet running on Australian state wagering licenses, and lottery estates from Veikkaus to Loterie Romande operating under their own frameworks. Brazil is signed (BandBet, Grupo Silvio Santos, Play7.Bet, 2023-2024) and none of the three has gone live under the 2025 SPA regime.
The engine has run US books since FanDuel's West Virginia launch in August 2019, the MTS desks price the big six US sports out of Las Vegas and Tampa on the in-house Don Best line, Four Winds Michigan went live in October 2024, and the 2025 American Gambling Awards named OpenBet Platform Provider of the Year on the back of Super Bowl performance. The caveats are real: state supplier registrations are not published on open registers, the 85-license claim has no public list, and FireKeepers moved to Aristocrat Interactive in October 2025.
UKGC account 3213 has stayed clean since it opened on Jan 1, 2009, with no fines, actions, or suspensions against it as of July 2026, and the London house built its name on UK retail giants, including William Hill's Promote retail software back in 2013. The modern caveat: William Hill's owner evoke agreed a takeover by Bally's and Intralot at 52p a share in June 2026, and OpenBet's post-2024 supply status there is not published anywhere.

Licensing tier: Depth of history without breadth of paper: one register-indexed license, an 85-license count with no public list, and a client wall doing the jurisdictional heavy lifting.
Outside the UK, supply runs on operator and lottery-estate licensing. Brazil stays off this list: the three 2023-2024 signings predate the 2025 SPA regime and none has launched since.
No restricted-market list is published, consistent with a book sold only to licensed operators and state estates under a 100% licensed revenue positioning (Jul 2025 site wording).
Sportsbook & verticals
A vendor's lineup often mixes its own builds with other companies' products plugged in. When the sportsbook is third party, a second company stands behind your contract.
Integrations & engineering
One contract and one API instead of a separate deal per studio, feed, or PSP. Here's what connects, how fast, and on what stack.
There is no integration surface to browse: no public docs, no sandbox, no self-serve tier (Jul 2026). Delivery is an enterprise program in one of two shapes, the full stack (betting engine, Player Account, front ends) or the componentized engine wired into an operator-owned stack the way FanDuel ran it from 2019. Trading arrives either as tools for the operator's own desk or as the MTS managed operation, and the Protect family (Neccton RG, Locator geolocation, AML) rides along either way.
120 days from scope to launch (Jul 2025). The dated record runs longer on big estates: Tabcorp signed in April 2024 and the multilingual TAB platform went live August 13, 2025.
Products & tools
Four families on the 2025 tree: Bet carries the engine, front ends, and Player Account, Trade carries odds, BetBuilder, trading tools, and the MTS managed desk, Protect carries AML, Locator geolocation, and Neccton responsible gaming, and Transform wraps the delivery services.
Betting Engine, Front Ends & Player Account
The core platform: the betting engine that has run continuously since the Orbis era, the Player Account PAM, and front ends, delivered as a full stack or componentized into an operator's own build.
- More than 200 million bets processed through World Cup 2022 and 140 million-plus at Euro 2024
- 100,000-plus peak bets a minute at the 2024 Grand National
- Full stack with PAM and front ends, or engine-only into the operator's own platform (the FanDuel model, live since WV 2019)
- Retail and omnichannel estates in production: OPAP Greece, Tabcorp's TAB, Danske Spil, BCLC PlayNow
- 100% uptime in key sporting events and 120 days from scope to launch, neither with numbers behind it
Trading System, Odds & BetBuilder
The self-trade side of the dual model: the OpenBet Trading System with trading tools for operators that run their own desks, the Odds product feeding operator books, and an own BetBuilder line with no third-party engine behind it.
- Own BetBuilder under the Trade family, with no third-party engine named on the vendor record
- Official F1 odds and data through ALT Sports Data, integrated into the Trading System (Feb 2026)
- Live micro-markets through the nVenue partnership (Oct 2024)
- Don Best Sports, the in-house US pricing division dating to the Scientific Games era
- F1 coverage spans practice and qualifying, pre-race outrights with cash out, and in-play micro markets (Feb 2026)
Managed Trading Services
The outsourced half of the dual model: 24/7 trading operations run from Las Vegas and Tampa, with a published scope list that is clearer about what a managed desk actually does than anything a rival prints.
- Published scope list: management of trading strategy, tailored margin per the operator's target, management of risk strategy, liability monitoring, limit setting, customer profiling (Feb 2025)
- 24/7 coverage across the Las Vegas and Tampa hubs, the Tampa desk open since Oct 2021
- US pricing powered by the in-house Don Best Sports division across the big six US sports
- AI-driven pricing models overseen by a team of sportsbook traders (2021)
- Pitched as full risk and liability management taken onto OpenBet's desk
Protect: Neccton RG, Locator & AML
The in-house compliance family: Neccton's Mentor behavioral AI for responsible gaming and AML (acquired June 2023), OpenBet Locator geolocation, and AML monitoring, sold to the most procurement-heavy buyers in gambling.
- Neccton GmbH acquired Jun 2023, bringing the Mentor RG and AML AI in-house
- Veikkaus expanded the Neccton platform across digital and retail ahead of Finland's new Gambling Act (2026)
- OpenBet Locator geolocation as a named product line
- Safer Gambling Supplier win at the EGR Europe Awards 2025 on the Neccton line
- Compliance positioning of 100% licensed revenue (site wording, Jul 2025)
Platform & capabilities
Everything the product does out of the box. If a feature isn't listed, the vendor either doesn't offer it or doesn't say.
Risk maturity
Operators check this capability first, and depth varies enough between vendors to grade it.
The history
Sales decks get rewritten for every deal. A dated record doesn't.
Clive Haworth, James Caddy, and Charles Malir founded Orbis Technology in London in February 1996, shipped one of the first online betting apps for the 1998 World Cup through a City Index and Sporting Life joint venture, and the company took the OpenBet name in 2010. Then came the ownership odyssey: News Corporation's NDS Group (2000), a Vitruvian-backed management buyout (2011, £208M), NYX Gaming Group (2016, £270M), Scientific Games via the roughly $631M NYX purchase (January 2018), and Endeavor (closed September 2022 at $847.1M after a $1.2B headline). Endeavor merged OpenBet with IMG Arena under one brand in February 2024, reversed course within a year, and sold both to OB Global Holdings LLC, the Ariel Emanuel and management vehicle, for roughly $450M, with the buyout closing March 24, 2025 and IMG Arena carved out to Sportradar (closed November 3, 2025). What remains is a private, independent supplier of 1,100 to 1,300 people running the industry's oldest continuously operating betting engine.

Awards & recognition
Longevity and ownership
Switching vendors is expensive, which makes the company's staying power part of the purchase. What the contract says about your data decides how expensive an exit gets.
OpenBet vs alternatives
No two vendors describe themselves the same way, which makes their own claims hard to line up. Every name here answers the same fields, so you can see where this one sits against the closest alternatives.

The take: Kambi is the managed-trading contrast with audited books and published AI-share numbers, and it took BCLC straight off OpenBet's wall in April 2026. Aristocrat Interactive brings blue-chip ASX funding and won FireKeepers head to head in October 2025. Pick OpenBet when tournament-scale throughput, a contract-shaped MTS offer, and a UKGC file clean since 2009 outweigh commercial transparency and a modern public integration surface.

Frequently asked
The things operators actually ask before signing.
Who owns OpenBet now, and how did it get here?+
OB Global Holdings LLC, a US entity affiliated with Ariel Emanuel and OpenBet's own management, closed the buyout from Endeavor on March 24, 2025, with CEO Jordan Levin staying on. The chain before that: News Corporation's NDS Group bought the company in 2000, a Vitruvian-backed management buyout followed in 2011 (£208M), NYX Gaming Group paid £270M in 2016, Scientific Games (now Light & Wonder) took NYX for about $631M in January 2018, and Endeavor closed its purchase at $847.1M in September 2022 after a $1.2B headline announcement. The 2024 buyout agreement valued OpenBet and IMG Arena together at roughly $450M, a 62% slide from the 2021 headline in three and a half years.
What does Managed Trading Services actually cover, and who carries the risk?+
MTS is OpenBet's named managed-trading product, run 24/7 from Las Vegas and Tampa (the Tampa hub opened October 2021). The published scope list: management of trading strategy, tailored margin per the operator's target, management of risk strategy, liability monitoring, limit setting, and customer profiling. US pricing runs on the in-house Don Best Sports division with AI-driven models overseen by traders. The risk stays on the operator's own book while OpenBet manages the liability as a service, so this is managed trading and never a risk-transfer deal. One dated caveat: the flagship MTS case study, FireKeepers, moved to Aristocrat Interactive in October 2025.
Does OpenBet still own IMG Arena and its official data rights?+
No. The carve-out was agreed on March 19, 2025, days before the buyout closed, and the transfer to Sportradar completed on November 3, 2025, with about $225 million flowing to Sportradar to take the business. That ended OpenBet's official-rights era: the 65,000 events a year of streaming and data now sit with a company OpenBet buys from instead of competing with. The first post-divestiture data deal is ALT Sports Data's official F1 odds and data, integrated into the OpenBet Trading System in February 2026, alongside the nVenue micro-market partnership from October 2024.
Does OpenBet offer a white label, or do I need my own licenses?+
You need your own licenses in every market. OpenBet is a pure B2B enterprise supplier that positions itself on 100% licensed revenue (site wording, July 2025), and no umbrella or license-fronting model exists anywhere in its book. That rules out license-less brands entirely. Operators hold the gambling licenses while OpenBet supplies the platform, the trading tools, and, if wanted, the managed trading operation on top.
How fast can an operator actually launch on OpenBet?+
The vendor's line is 120 days from scope to launch (site wording, July 2025), and no case-study math has ever been published behind it. The dated record points to heavier timelines on big estates: Tabcorp signed in April 2024 and the multilingual TAB platform went live on August 13, 2025, while Veikkaus (signed November 2023) was still expanding its deployment through 2026. Plan a heavyweight integration program and treat the 120-day figure as a sales number until your own scope confirms it.
Is FanDuel still running on OpenBet?+
The documented relationship: FanDuel launched on the engine in West Virginia in August 2019 and in Illinois and Indiana in 2020, Flutter signed a five-year OpenSports renewal covering FanDuel and Sky Bet in September 2020, and a FanDuel CEO testimonial still sat on OpenBet's site in 2025. How much of FanDuel's current stack remains on OpenBet is published nowhere as of July 2026, so read the logo as a documented engine relationship whose current scope is unknown.
