Pay4Fun Review
6.6/10A São Paulo payment institution built around Brazilian betting: a BCB e-money authorization from June 2022 (the first won by a betting-segment payments company), a 3M-user Pix wallet plus the Pay4Fun GO gateway and a Pomelo-issued prepaid Mastercard, a 9.5/10 consumer reputation, no market outside Brazil, no rail besides Pix, and no public pricing.
Our read
Brazil-only and Pix-only by design: a 3M-user wallet, the GO gateway, and a Pomelo prepaid card, with crypto refused outright and the 2023 regional expansion never shipping.
A national BCB e-money authorization, IBIA forum founding membership, and a direct SPI seat for Pix operating since May 2024.
Native Pix in and out at rail speed with full-amount merchant funding claimed, though the R$500M+ to R$300-400M monthly volume squeeze shows how exposed the flow is to the operator roster.
A 9.5/10 consumer reputation with 100% complaint response, a public governance portal, and a clean regulatory record, held back by a named-client list frozen in 2022-23 press with no current roster published.
A publicly downloadable GO API document and Nuvei APM distribution, but no sandbox, no platform connectors, no published integration timeline, and only GO listed for sale on the Solutions page (Jul 2026).
Nothing public at all, and the only figure out there ('up to 20% commissions') describes grey-era market margins rather than a Pay4Fun fee.
Methodology. Our own score, a weighted average of six dimensions, tilted toward coverage and licensing. The LatAm-specialist weighting puts .26 on coverage, exactly where a one-country, one-rail specialist gives ground, so the BCB authorization (8.0 on compliance at .20) and the 7.2 trust line pull against a 5.8 coverage base and 4.6 commercials to land at 6.6. Read the full methodology
- National licensing in its own name: PAY4FUN Instituição de Pagamento S.A. (CNPJ 20.757.199/0001-04), authorized as an e-money issuer by BCB decision of June 7, 2022, the first payment institution from the betting segment through that gate.
- The strongest consumer reputation in the segment: a 9.5/10 consumer-reputation score for H1 2026 with 100% of complaints answered.
- Real public governance: a transparency portal with a published code of ethics, an ethics reporting channel, and a site footer that links to its own BCB register entry, unusual openness for gambling payments.
- IBIA Payment Provider Forum founding member, with co-founder Ari Celia co-chairing the forum that engages Brazilian regulators on payments integrity (Jul 2025).
- Built for the .bet.br regime end to end: KYM onboarding that screens merchants for SPA compliance, dual segregated accounts per operator separating player funds from bookmaker resources, and a licensed-only policy it enforced with a mass purge of non-compliant sites.
- Eight years of operating history at real scale: R$8.1B processed in FY2023 (up 212% year over year) and 3M+ registered wallet users by December 2024.
- The regulated market shrank it: after the October 10, 2024 portarias its client list fell from 500+ websites to roughly 200 (about 100 companies) and monthly volume dropped from R$500M+ (Sep 2023) to R$300-400M (Dec 2024), with volume back at pre-regulation levels by mid-2025.
- One country, one rail: Brazil-only and effectively Pix-only, with crypto refused on principle, cards banned for betting anyway, and the 2023 Chile/Peru/Mexico expansion never shipping.
- The direct SPI seat is recent: PAY4FUN IP S.A. has operated on the rail only since May 13, 2024, so most of the company's eight-year history ran through partner institutions.
- Zero public pricing, and the named-client list (Bet365, PokerStars, Betsson) is frozen in 2022-23 press interviews, with no current roster published anywhere.
SPA-licensed .bet.br operators that want a regulator-aligned local partner with a consumer wallet audience and merchant-side compliance screening built in, and international operators entering Brazil that prefer a BCB-authorized counterpart over a grey-zone gateway.
Anyone who needs multi-country LatAm coverage from one contract (PayRetailers or AstroPay territory), crypto rails (refused on principle), or card acquiring.
Markets & licensing
One authorization carries the file, and it is the real thing: PAY4FUN Instituição de Pagamento S.A. (CNPJ 20.757.199/0001-04) is authorized by the Central Bank of Brazil as a payment institution in the e-money issuer modality, decision dated June 7, 2022 and published in the Diário Oficial on June 10. It was the first betting-segment payment institution through that gate. The Pix leg is equally direct: PAY4FUN IP S.A. is a direct SPI participant, operating on the rail since May 13, 2024. What it does not hold: any license outside Brazil, and any SPA gambling license, which payment institutions do not need.
There is nothing here for a US-facing operator: no money-transmitter licenses, no state approvals, no product outside Brazil, and no expansion plan anywhere. Pay4Fun is a single-market company by design, and the one regional expansion it announced (Chile, Peru, and Mexico in March 2023) never shipped.
No UK presence, registration, or product exists. A UK-licensed operator only ever meets Pay4Fun as the Brazil leg of a LatAm expansion, reached directly or as an APM through Nuvei's catalog, and for any other purpose this file is not relevant to a UK project.

Licensing tier: A single-country sheet, but a solid one: a national BCB authorization under active supervision plus a direct SPI seat for Pix, both held in the company's own name, which is more than most gambling-facing payment companies can show.
Brazil is the entire footprint. Roughly 100 companies across about 200 websites after the October 2024 portarias, down from 200+ companies and 500+ websites before them (Dec 2024).
Single-market by design rather than by prohibition. The March 2023 announcement of Chile, Peru, and Mexico activations was not followed by a launch.

Integrations & engineering
One contract and one API instead of a separate deal per studio, feed, or PSP. Here's what connects, how fast, and on what stack.
Two models on one Pix backbone. The wallet is B2B2C: the player opens a KYC'd Pay4Fun account (documents, facial recognition, restrictive-list screening), funds it by Pix, and pays integrated sites from the balance, with withdrawals returning to the same verified CPF's bank account. Pay4Fun GO is the direct route: a gateway on the merchant's own page where the player enters an amount, CPF, and email and pays by Pix with no wallet account. Merchant onboarding runs through the commercial team as KYM, including an SPA-compliance check, and the regulated-market setup requires two segregated accounts per operator, one for player funds and one for bookmaker resources. Pix itself clears on Pay4Fun's own direct SPI seat, held since May 2024, after earlier years running through SPI-connected partners.
Not published. The GO API document is a public download, and onboarding is handled by the commercial team with no stated SLA.
Products & tools
Two ways in and one rail underneath: a KYC'd consumer wallet with three million registered users, the Pay4Fun GO gateway that takes an amount, a CPF, and an email straight on the merchant's page, and a Pomelo-issued prepaid Mastercard for spending wallet balances, all running on Pix.
Pay4Fun Wallet
The original product: a KYC'd consumer wallet that players fund by Pix and spend across integrated betting sites, with iOS and Android apps, withdrawals back to the holder's own bank account, and 3M+ registered users by December 2024.
- 3M+ registered users (Dec 2024), up from about 2M in June 2024
- Pix top-ups, with TED and boleto surviving only as legacy pre-regulation routes
- KYC at account opening: document checks, facial recognition, and restrictive-list screening
- iOS and Android apps
- Withdrawals ride Pix back to the verified holder's own bank account, keeping deposits and payouts on one CPF
- Pay4Fun Card attached for spending the balance on the Mastercard network (Dec 2022)
Pay4Fun GO
The gateway and the post-regulation vehicle: a direct Pix checkout on the merchant's own page where the player enters an amount, CPF, and email with no wallet account needed, backed by a publicly downloadable API document and full-amount merchant funding.
- Direct Pix flow with no Pay4Fun account required: amount, CPF, and email
- API document available as a public download at merchant.p4f.com/developers
- Full amount funded to the merchant account, pitched as fast with no published T+n
- KYM merchant onboarding that screens for SPA compliance before go-live
- Distributed internationally as an APM in Nuvei's catalog
Pay4Fun Card
A prepaid Mastercard issued with Argentine card-issuing fintech Pomelo since December 2022, letting wallet holders spend balances anywhere Mastercard is accepted instead of only on integrated sites.
- Issued in partnership with Pomelo (Dec 2022)
- Spends the Pay4Fun wallet balance across the Mastercard acceptance network
- Keeps the wallet useful beyond betting sites
- Spend-side issuing only, since the SPA rules ban credit cards for bet funding from 2025
The history
Sales decks get rewritten for every deal. A dated record doesn't.
Operations started in 2018 in São Paulo, founded by a group including CEO Leonardo Baptista, a former gambling operator, and Ari Celia, who now co-chairs IBIA's Payment Provider Forum. The Ltda became PAY4FUN Instituição de Pagamento S.A. in November 2019, and in June 2022 the BCB authorized it as an e-money issuer, the first payment institution from the betting segment through that gate, with founders Leonardo Dinacci Baptista and Marlon Elias Rodrigues Rupe as the two controllers. The defining stretch came in 2024-25: the October 2024 payment portarias and the January 2025 .bet.br regime cut its serviced sites from 500+ to roughly 200, it dropped more than 600 sites that would not comply, and it rebuilt itself as the regulator-aligned payments player in the market it helped bank before regulation existed.

Longevity and ownership
Switching vendors is expensive, which makes the company's staying power part of the purchase. What the contract says about your data decides how expensive an exit gets.
Pay4Fun vs alternatives
No two vendors describe themselves the same way, which makes their own claims hard to line up. Every name here answers the same fields, so you can see where this one sits against the closest alternatives.

The take: PayRetailers is the breadth play: nine LatAm pay-in markets and direct Pix through its subsidiary Transfeera, regional reach Pay4Fun deliberately lacks, though with zero named operators. AstroPay is the other consumer-wallet brand holding a Brazilian BCB authorization, spread across 11 countries with the bigger player base. Pick Pay4Fun when the plan is Brazil in depth: a locally licensed issuer, the strongest consumer reputation of the three, and a compliance posture regulators publicly engage with.
Settlement & commercials
Pay4Fun prices per deal, so exact figures land in the contract rather than on a public rate card.
Fully on-request: no rates, setup fees, minimums, reserves, or contract terms are public anywhere. The one public number is market context, with the CEO saying operators paid up to 20% in payment commissions during the pre-regulation era (Dec 2024), a description of grey-market margins that the regulated regime compressed. The grey-era GO pitch also advertised full-amount funding and chargeback exemption, both worth writing into the contract in 2026.

Onboarding path
- 1Contact the commercial team, since pricing, settlement terms, and contracts are only discussed per deal
- 2Bring your SPA/.bet.br standing to the table, because KYM onboarding screens for it and unlicensed sites are refused
- 3Clear merchant KYC/KYB with the commercial team (document verification and integrity checks)
- 4Pick the model: wallet integration for the B2B2C audience, Pay4Fun GO for direct Pix on your own cashier, with the GO API document downloadable before you commit
- 5Set up the two segregated accounts the regulated-market model requires, one for player funds and one for operator resources
- 6Go live on Pix, with player-side support running 24/7 through Pay4Fun's own channels
Support & account management
You can't demo service before you sign, so what a vendor puts in writing is the only floor you can hold it to.
Frequently asked
The things operators actually ask before signing.
Is Pay4Fun authorized by the Central Bank of Brazil?+
Yes. PAY4FUN Instituição de Pagamento S.A. (CNPJ 20.757.199/0001-04) is authorized by the Central Bank of Brazil as a payment institution in the e-money issuer modality, decision dated June 7, 2022 and published in the Diário Oficial on June 10. It was the first payment institution from the betting segment to win that authorization. The Pix leg is equally direct: PAY4FUN IP S.A. is a direct SPI participant, operating on the rail since May 13, 2024.
What happened to Pay4Fun when Brazil's regulated market opened on January 1, 2025?+
It got smaller and stricter. The payment portarias that took effect on October 10, 2024 restricted betting payments ahead of the .bet.br regime, and the CEO put numbers on the damage that December: from 200+ companies across 500+ websites down to roughly 100 companies and 200 websites, with monthly volume falling from R$500M+ (September 2023) to R$300-400M. By June 2025 it had stopped serving more than 600 platforms that would not comply, and by August 2025 volumes were back at pre-regulation levels.
What is the difference between the Pay4Fun wallet and Pay4Fun GO?+
The wallet is a consumer product: the player opens a KYC'd Pay4Fun account (documents, facial recognition, restrictive-list screening), funds it by Pix, spends across integrated sites, and withdraws to the bank account tied to the same CPF, with 3M+ registered users as of December 2024 and a Pomelo-issued prepaid Mastercard attached. GO is a gateway: the player enters an amount, CPF, and email directly on the merchant's checkout and pays by Pix with no Pay4Fun account, and the API document is a public download at merchant.p4f.com/developers. Post-regulation, GO is clearly the growth vehicle, since licensed operators need direct Pix flows more than intermediary balances.
What does Pay4Fun cost, and does it take crypto or cards?+
No pricing is public anywhere, so every term is negotiated. The only public number is context: the CEO said operators paid up to 20% in payment commissions in the pre-regulation era, describing the grey-market margins that regulation compressed. On rails, Pay4Fun is deliberately narrow: 100% Pix since 2021, crypto refused outright over tracking and regulatory concerns, and credit cards banned for bet funding under the SPA rules anyway, with the prepaid Mastercard existing only for spending wallet balances.
