Light & Wonder Review

7.7/10

A public US gaming giant whose B2B iGaming arm runs the OpenGaming aggregation network, licensed in the UK and all seven regulated US iGaming states.

Our take

On the B2B iGaming side this is two businesses in one: the OpenGaming platform that pipes 6,500+ games from 60+ studios into operators, and L&W's own studios and jackpots feeding that same network. It is not a turnkey casino vendor.

Verdict

Our read

Strengths
  • Licensed in the UK, Malta, every regulated US iGaming state, Ontario, and Alberta, with further B2B licenses in Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Greece, Romania, and Gibraltar.
  • A certified library through OpenGaming: 6,500+ games from 60+ studios.
  • Owned content on top of the aggregation. L&W's own studios (ELK, Lightning Box, Authentic Gaming) and hits like 88 Fortunes and Monopoly run on the same network.
  • Public-company scale. ASX-listed, $3.314B group revenue in FY2025, with a $337M iGaming segment processing $109B in wagers a year.
  • One integration to the whole network. OpenGaming and the Open Gaming System act as a single API into thousands of titles plus PAM and player tools.
Watch-outs
  • Not a turnkey or white-label vendor. If you want someone to build and run a casino for you, this is the wrong shape of supplier.
  • No public API docs. The developer portal sits behind a login, and there's no affiliate system to run acquisition through the platform.
  • No crypto. Fiat-focused, with no native crypto cashier.
  • Regulated-markets-only supply. The network serves licensed jurisdictions, so offshore and grey-market operators sit outside the brief.
  • The offer covers casino content and aggregation only, with no sportsbook, bingo, or poker networks.
Best for

Regulated operators in the US and UK that want one integration to a certified game library, plus access to L&W's own hit content like Huff N' Puff and Squid Game. Strong for US-facing brands that need state-by-state compliant content.

Not for

Operators who want a full turnkey or white-label casino built for them, crypto-first brands, and anyone who only needs a small game catalog.

Markets & licensing

Light & Wonder's OpenGaming network runs on its own UKGC, Malta, and US state approvals, so an operator inherits that regulated reach through a single integration.

OpenGaming — product render

OpenGaming is the core of Light & Wonder's B2B iGaming offer. An operator connects once and gets a certified library of 6,500-plus games from 60-plus studios, without contracting and integrating each studio separately. The network handles 5 billion-plus game rounds a month and processed $109B in wagers across 2025.

OpenGaming is live across the regulated US states, the UK, and Ontario, with localized responsible-gaming and compliance config per jurisdiction. For a US-facing operator that needs state-by-state certified content, that is the hard part solved. The trade-off is that you're buying aggregation and distribution only. There's no turnkey casino here. You still run the operation on your own license.

How it connects

Integrations & engineering

One contract and one API instead of a separate deal per studio, feed, or PSP. Here's what connects, how fast, and on what stack.

One unified API

Light & Wonder's iGaming model is content plus aggregation, so the integration story is one connection to many studios. The Open Gaming System (OGS) and OpenGaming act as a single API into 6,500-plus games from 60-plus in-house and third-party studios, with the Infinity Gateway as the developer integration layer. PAM, player portals, payments, KYC, geolocation, and per-jurisdiction responsible-gaming config sit on the same platform. Playzido is L&W's own remote game server (RGS) used to build and rapidly deploy custom and exclusive content onto the network.

The history

Longevity in this industry usually comes with a change of owner somewhere in it.

Light & Wonder traces back to 1973 lottery roots that grew into Scientific Games. In 2022 the company renamed itself Light & Wonder, sold off its lottery and sports-betting businesses, and refocused on gaming: land-based machines, social casino (SciPlay), and iGaming. It is a public company with a sole ASX primary listing (LNW) after delisting from Nasdaq in November 2025.
