Brite Payments Review
6.9/10Swedish open-banking challenger founded in 2019 by a Klarna alumna, running instant account-to-account deposits and payouts across 27 European markets through its own Instant Payments Network.
Our read
- Instant payouts that actually run 24/7/365, weekends and non-instant-rail markets included, because Brite takes receipt of funds and pays from merchant balances instead of waiting on bank rails: median settlement around 4 seconds.
- Brite Play compresses signup, KYC, and first deposit into one flow under 60 seconds, returns bank-verified identity data in under 20, and runs closed-loop payouts with a first-party deposit lock.
- A tier-1 operator group on the client list: FDJ United (ex-Kindred) runs Brite in Finland and Belgium, with a co-built Belgian payout-and-verification flow, alongside Rootz, Sonic, and Rhino Entertainment.
- One Swedish Payment Institution passported across the EEA covers all 27 markets.
- Profitable since 2022, with no round raised since the $60M Dawn Capital-led Series A of October 2023.
- One rail, one region: A2A only across 27 European markets, with no cards, wallets, cash, UK, or US.
- No public detail on the pre-funding, liquidity, or safeguarding behind the merchant-balance model, so settlement risk is a contract question.
- Priced per deal through sales, with no self-serve tier.
European licensed operators across the Nordics, DACH, Benelux, Baltics, and CEE that want pay-by-bank deposits with genuinely instant withdrawals, whether as a Trustly alternative or as an A/B rail beside it, plus anyone on SOFTSWISS who can switch the connector on.
UK-first or US operators, crypto casinos that need coin rails, and buyers who want cards, a full cashier, LatAm coverage, or published pricing from a single vendor.
Markets & licensing
Brite AB is a Swedish Payment Institution registered with Finansinspektionen under corporate identity number 559116-1632, and its EEA passporting covers every one of its 27 markets.
There is no US entity and no money-transmitter licensing. The bank network is European by construction, so US-facing operators need a different rail entirely. Trustly runs pay-by-bank in the US on RTP and FedNow.
Brite keeps a London office at 33 Cavendish Square, but the UK is not one of its live markets and no FCA authorization exists for any Brite entity. The office is a commercial presence, not a licensed one.
- Sweden (Finansinspektionen) PISweden
- Payment Institution: account-to-account payments, payouts, and account data services, passported across the EEA · Brite AB · reg 559116-1632 · Payment Institution under Finansinspektionen
Licensing tier: The permissions stop at Payment Institution scope. There is no EMI, no UK authorization behind the London office, and nothing outside the EEA.
Neither is a ban. The UK sits outside Brite's live markets despite the London office, and Brite has no US presence at all.

Integrations & engineering
One contract and one API instead of a separate deal per studio, feed, or PSP. Here's what connects, how fast, and on what stack.
One API covers deposits, payouts, refunds, and account data across all 27 markets, with a hosted Brite overlay carrying the consumer flow inside the merchant's checkout. Behind it, the Instant Payments Network takes receipt of funds, reconciles them, and runs a balance per merchant, which is what lets payouts settle around the clock regardless of the local rail. Gaming operators can add Brite Play, which folds account creation, bank-verified KYC, and the first deposit into one flow and returns name, address, date of birth, and ID number in under 20 seconds. Data Solutions adds AIS-based Income Insights and Source of Funds collection for affordability workflows.
Products & tools
Everything hangs off one A2A rail: instant deposits and payouts run through the Brite IPN's balance model, Brite Play folds onboarding and KYC into the first deposit, and Data Solutions reads bank data for affordability checks.
Instant Payments
The deposit side: a consumer picks their bank, authenticates with the bank's own method, and the money moves, with the whole flow at under 60 seconds across 3,800+ European banks in 27 markets.
- Bank selection plus the bank's own authentication (biometrics or digital ID), no card entry and no registration
- Under 60 seconds from starting the Brite flow to completion, under 30 seconds at checkout for returning users
- Pay Faster Next Time shortcut, with 90%+ conversion for returning users
- 3,800+ European banks reachable through one integration
- Euro plus non-euro European currencies, including SEK and DKK outside the Eurozone
- Instant refunds processed back over the same rail
Instant Payouts & the Brite IPN
Brite's proprietary Instant Payments Network takes full receipt of funds, reconciles them, and runs a balance per merchant, which is how payout settlement lands in a median of about 4 seconds, 24/7/365, even on rails that are not instant.
- Median payout settlement around 4 seconds, processing target under 40 seconds
- 24/7/365 clearing including weekends, on instant and non-instant local rails alike
- Full receipt of funds with merchant balances, unlike payment-initiation-only providers
- Smart routing that picks the fastest path per payment, with a >99% success rate
- Time2Money shows the consumer an arrival estimate, Live Payout Tracking gives the merchant real-time status
- Merchant FX for cross-border currency handling, automatic reconciliation bundled
Brite Play
Brite's answer to Pay N Play: account creation, KYC, and the first deposit compressed into one bank-authenticated flow, with verified identity data returned to the operator in under 20 seconds and gambling-specific deposit and payout controls on top.
- Signup, KYC, and first deposit in one flow, under 60 seconds end to end
- Bank-verified name, address, date of birth, and ID number delivered to the operator in under 20 seconds
- Closed-loop payouts restricted to the verified deposit account
- First-party deposit lock that blocks third parties funding someone else's account
- Uplift of 7.7% in average deposit value, up to 31% on AOV versus regular payments
- Income Insights affordability and Source of Funds collection available in the same bank-authenticated flow
The history
Longevity in this industry usually comes with a change of owner somewhere in it.
Brite was founded in Stockholm in 2019 by Lena Hackelöer, a Klarna alumna, and positioned from day one as a challenger to Trustly. It doubled transaction volume and revenue and reached profitability in 2022, then raised a $60M Series A led by Dawn Capital with Headline and Incore Invest in October 2023. It has grown to roughly 160 people across Stockholm, London, Málaga, and Malta, and built out a dedicated gaming organization under an SVP hired in February 2024. Brite investor Incore Invest agreed in December 2025 to buy PaymentIQ from Worldline, putting the same investor behind both an A2A rail and an iGaming cashier orchestration platform.

Longevity and ownership
Switching vendors is expensive, which makes the company's staying power part of the purchase. What the contract says about your data decides how expensive an exit gets.
Brite Payments vs alternatives
Most buyers in this market shortlist three or four vendors long before they take a single sales call.

Settlement & commercials
Brite Payments prices per deal, so exact figures land in the contract rather than on a public rate card.
Per-transaction pricing with volume-based and industry-specific custom rates, iGaming included.

Support & account management
You can't demo service before you sign, so what a vendor puts in writing is the only floor you can hold it to.
