Our take

Pagsmile reaches more countries than any other LatAm specialist in this segment: 45 payin geographies across LatAm, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, payouts to 28 destinations, and its own BCB e-money authorization for the Brazil leg since April 2025. It sells into betting and casino, though no operator client is public. Above the São Paulo business the chain runs to two Hong Kong holding companies that disclose no shareholders or financials.

Our read

Strengths
  • The Brazil leg runs on the group's own BCB payment-institution authorization rather than a partner's license.
  • Payin across 14 LatAm countries and payouts across 14, with Pix Biometria, Recurring Pix, Open Finance, and Colombia's Bre-B on the rails.
  • Public docs with an llms.txt index, and payin and payout sandboxes that open with no contract gate.
  • One integration reaches past LatAm into Egypt, India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, the GCC, and African mobile-money markets.
  • Over $500M processed monthly across verticals, roughly 10% of it in Brazil, and about 20M LatAm transactions a month.
  • A R$23.5M financial holding above the licensed entity, a BCB-mandated ouvidoria channel, and a compliance director hired in June 2026.
Watch-outs
  • Ownership sits with two Hong Kong holding companies, Pagsmile Limited and Pagsmile (HK) Payment Limited, with no shareholders, investors, or financials disclosed.
  • No public gambling client references.
  • No license outside Brazil.
  • Pricing and settlement terms are on request, and Brazilian Pix payouts cap at R$15,000 per transaction.
Best for

Cross-border operators and B2B suppliers entering Brazil and Spanish-speaking LatAm who want one API for local payin and player payouts with a BCB-regulated Brazil leg.

Not for

Procurement that requires gambling references, published pricing, disclosed ownership above the holding companies, or licensed processing for US, UK, or EU-facing flows.

Markets & licensing

The regulated leg is Brazilian and it is Pagsmile's own. The Banco Central do Brasil authorized Transfersmile Instituição de Pagamento Ltda as a payment institution in the e-money issuer modality, published in the Diário Oficial da União on April 1, 2025, and the entity has since been renamed Pagsmile Instituição de Pagamento Ltda. Pix participation runs on the indirect model, and Marlon Tseng and Di Liu control the licensed entity through Transfersmile Holding Financeira.

United States
No regulated US leg

Pagsmile carries no money-transmitter coverage in the US, so US-facing betting projects belong with another provider.

United Kingdom
A LatAm tool for UK operators

Pagsmile holds no FCA authorization. A UK-licensed operator would use it strictly as the LatAm and emerging-markets leg of the cashier, contracted away from the UK business.

Also serves grey / unregulated markets.

How it connects

Integrations & engineering

One contract and one API instead of a separate deal per studio, feed, or PSP. Here's what connects, how fast, and on what stack.

One unified API

Four REST APIs cover payin, payouts, remittance, and card issuing, authenticated with an AppId and SHA256 request signing, with webhooks carrying status. Merchants integrate direct or drop in the hosted All-In-One Checkout, cards tokenize through the Pagsmile JavaScript layer, and both test environments are public: gateway-test.pagsmile.com for payin and sandbox.transfersmile.com for payouts, the second one on the remittance arm's domain. Onboarding is a five-step flow from a short form through KYC and AML checks to live, under a single contract, with a merchant portal for teams that want dashboards before deep integration.

The history

Longevity in this industry usually comes with a change of owner somewhere in it.

Pagsmile grew out of X-Cloud Game, a Chinese mobile-games publisher whose Latin American publishing business needed local collections, and the payments company kept the group's Chinese roots while planting its operating base in São Paulo. The group's history runs back to 2012, the Brazilian operating entity opened in August 2015, and the regulated arm came later: a payment-institution entity created in July 2020 under the Transfersmile name, capitalized through a R$23.5M financial holding in 2024, authorized by the Banco Central do Brasil as an e-money issuer on April 1, 2025, and renamed Pagsmile Instituição de Pagamento the same year. Control sits with co-founders Marlon Tseng and Di Liu through two Hong Kong holding companies.

Milestones

  1. The Brazilian operating entity opens in São Paulo in August, collecting payments for X-Cloud Game's LatAm publishing business before the payments pivot.

  2. The future regulated arm, Transfersmile Instituição de Pagamento, is created in July as the group formalizes its Brazil payments stack.

  3. Gambling-industry debut at ICE London in April, with a Hong Kong MSO, a US FinCEN MSB, and an EU EMI flagged as in the works.

  4. Transfersmile Holding Financeira is capitalized at R$23.5M in February, and the SBC Awards and SiGMA Europe both shortlist Pagsmile in payment categories.

  5. The Banco Central authorization publishes in the Diário Oficial on April 1, the licensed entity takes the Pagsmile name, and processing passes $500M a month.

  6. Caio Sabino joins as compliance director in June, and a March deal takes a 49% stake in credit fintech a55, pending BCB approval.

Where they're pushing next

  • Regulated Brazilian betting (post-authorization positioning since Apr 2025)
  • Colombia (Bre-B live for payin and payouts)
  • Credit products through the 49% a55 SCD stake (pending BCB approval)
